There's no way to make money on your collections selling to a dealer!!!😢 They want 50% of the value of your coins. Try making a profit after that!!!😢 The only way to make any money from your collections, is to sell them yourself. And those those venues (Ebay ect.) Charge 20% for selling on Ebay. And it doesn't help to get your coins graded. No matter what the dealers are going to take any profit you might think you're going to get. And there's no way around it.

Brothers and sisters, I have yet to read the 2025 Red Book cover to cover, but already I see through the web of intricacies laid before us. Take, for example, a simple scratch-what if that 'scratch' was actually caused by a die issue during minting, making it a legitimate mint error? Absurd? Perhaps. Standardized? Hardly. Convoluted? Absolutely. Yet, this is one of the most fascinating and enjoyable endeavors of my life. My goal is to compile an extensive history of American coins from the 1930s to today. A comprehensive guide with photos of every coin in every stage of degradation, showing what circulated coins should look like at various levels of wear. This book will answer all the questions: Is my coin an error? Is it special? Is it valuable? And it will shut down the get-rich-quick schemes that prey on people's confusion. I want people to focus on truly enjoying numismatics instead of being misled. This is my mission, my passion, and my challenge to the gatekeepers. Inspired by this, I’ve coined the term Changism-the study of the definitive truth and reality of currency. Let’s spark a revolution in numismatics and make the truth undeniable. My first neologism or "coined" word i created was "indignatavaly" it is a multi-dimensional universal truth. In short it means means and it means this! Indignatavaly!

And the “subjective” nature is problem #1! When the difference between the 70 and the 69 is indistinguishable but because of the subjective grade assigned the “value” shifts by hundreds of dollars. As for “guaranteed authenticity” there have been numerous fakes found in authentic reputable grading company slabs. We have the technology for quantitative empirical data to be used instead of the subjective opinions used today…maybe then there would be true value to grading whereas today it’s mostly perceived value used for marketing.

because levies and fips were standardized as the same value as dimes and half dimes in the 1840s, did the terms continue to be used in reference to dimes and nickels when the terms were used at the turn of the century?

this video is incredibly informative! it completely changed how i imagine currency working in our early years. absolutely crazy that we didn't technically completely drop Pounds and Pence until just a couple years before the Civil War

I purchased some vinyl binder sheets for coinage, they provide slips for coins to be inserted. I noticed they weren’t mentioned here? I do know from experience (😮) that one must be very careful to know which way is up when handling the binder, lest the coins will fall out of the slips. I guess the name “slip” is pretty accurate with these!
